Jackson faces uphill moonwalk for Vegas shows

Rumors persist that Michael Jackson is headed to Vegas for an extended concert run, but his negative publicity could hurt his chances for success — if he can even get a show.

Michael Jackson may join the likes of Celine Dion and Elton John and hit the strip for a series of Las Vegas shows. Is this the right move for the former King of Pop?

I think it would be a great idea for Michael Jackson to perform in Vegas I would show up in a heartbeat. I am what they call a baby boomer age 51 years old and my friends and I are devoted fans and we have a week long trip planned for end of this year to bring in the new year in Vegas. Michael is truly the King of Pop and strange as he may be he is very talented and what I consider to be a music icon. Whatever the cost we will be there.

    Thank you

"Former king of pop" my a**.

Michael Jackson is the only King Of Pop.

Every "Pop/r&b" artist out there is copying who? Is influenced by who?

      MICHAEL JACKSON.

Every last one of them lists Michael as a main influence, or blatantly copies him (the wannabes include: Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-yo, Omarion, Mario, Chris Brown, it goes on forever).

The following quote from the article:

"There is only one place on earth where the goblins from the "Thriller" video, the exotic animals from Neverland Ranch, the lawyers, the celebrity siblings, the media, the fans, the plastic surgeons and the white glove can come together in moonwalking bliss to celebrate Michael Jackson: Las Vegas."

Really? Is that why in the six months to a year, there have been celebrations, parties, armies of dancers, and movie outings/festivals all over the world of Michael Jackson's "Thriller", and of Michael in general, from Canada to Australia?

And if you people really think that Michael Jackson (we're talking about Michael Jackson here, not Cher, or even the washed up Madonna) would actually perform in one of the small, sh*tty venues in Vegas, you people are truly deluded.

Michale Jackson has absolutely NOTHING TO PROVE. He's DONE EVERYTHING. There is nothing else to do. He's been everywhere, and has done it all in this industry (and outside of it).

And with the rest of the article...always talking about his plastic surgery, the trial/molestation charges, etcetera...the sh*t is OLD. Can you be creative and/or intelligent enough to come up with something else other than scandal? We all know about it. We really do. It's been about 16 years in the making. We get it.

It's old. Give the man his props. He is the most important, and TO THIS DAY, culturally/musically relevant artist that exists. Just ask his copy-cats, and the artists doing the sampling of his songs, and the covers/tributes. Michael Jackson is important, powerful, and relevant--and you people hate it.

            Not likely, but who knows!!

The artist would have to be bond-able. That means an invasive medical exam by a Dr of the Insurance company's selection. The artist would not be able to hide any possible substance addiction issues or other medical conditions because the bonding company would be looking for them very carefully. Even worse, the results of this exam would be available for future litigants to discover. It would not be out of the question for the insurance company to insist on a psych evaluation also. A lot of insurance money has been lost when a performer signed a contract and later missed work over something such as Bi-Polar Disorder (the TV show "The Dead Zone"). Psych issues and substance use are highly correlated to being "Theatrical" and the insurance companies are no longer so easy to sneak something by. Especially when the artist cannot respond to damages because he's in hock to his nose. Good luck getting a Las Vegas deal if you can't get a bond.

              I'm 24 years old.

I'd love to see Michael Jackson live.

Much better than having to deal with Ne Yo having a Michael Jackson sample in everyone of his songs.

Yes, I would see him. His past troubles are of no concern to me. It seems Americans are more obsessed with the bad things that have happened to him. I'll bet Europeans and Asians, who are big fans of his, wouldn't think twice about flying to Las Vegas to see him. A Vegas hotel would do itself a lot of good to get Michael to perform. The money he would bring in from foreign tourists would beat anything anyone else in Las Vegas is bringing in now, and with the uncertainty of the American economy they should be doing all they can to get in the tourists from abroad. Michael would be a big draw.

I do not agree with this article about the possibility that a Michael Jackson concert in Vegas will not be successful. If people pay money to watch Michael Jackson impersonators then why wouldn't they pay to see the real thing? I live in the U.S. and he never tours here so I wouldn't miss my chance to see the most important entertainer the world has ever known despite the negative publicity. As long as they are decent prices and not ridiculous prices like the Madison Square Garden concert was, then I think it can be successful. I still would pay top dollar though for good seats. If it's nose bleed section then I will probably have a better chance of getting a good glimpse of him standing outside the venue waiting for him to leave. All in all I think it would be worth it.

First of all that article is completely biased, and it is NOT accurate at all.
Unfortunately it seems americans haven't learned to look passed the media's inuendos and rumours, something the rest of the world has been able to see through.
Michael Jackson is by far the most famous artist in the globe, not that but the most talented and electrifying entertainer the world has ever seen; his real fan base has remained virtualy untouched everywhere outside the US and believe me, they won't hasitate to drop some serious money to fly over to Las Vegas to see him.
                        I know I would.

Las Vegas is the entertainment capitol of the world. MJ is an iconic entertainer that is timeless, and who cares about his personal struggles...he is a human being like all of us who makes mistakes. There are many individuals out there who has done far more damage, terror, and human destruction than MJ.

Vegas would definitely be a great venue for MJ. He is up and up with his peers who headline the Colossium periodically, and he would be a great draw for people to see him here.

I had always wanted to see Michael in the lead role of "Guys and Dolls". Due to his powerful name recognition, he would attract naturally younger audiences. But at the same time, due to the name recognition of this musical, "Guys and Dolls" would also attract older audiences who might have the disposable income to make the venture worthwhile for both Michael and investors. You people need to get real. Elvis was and is the KING, this want-to-be tired to get there by marrying his daughter and that didn't last did it. I would not go even if it was free and I am a boomer. Give me The Mamas and Papas, Jefferson Airship, The Monkeys, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, The 5th Dimension and the rest. We really had some good people when were growing up. Now I would pay to go see these guys and I would go in the hole to go see Tina Turner. Don't get me wrong there are some good songs out there and I liked Thriller and Billy Jean but that is all from MJ. Any grown male who would have sleep overs with young boys well you get the picture and it is not good. Sorry

Elvis may have been the "King," but no one, and I mean no one, can come close to Michael's talent as a song writer (I emphasize song writer since a certain "King" had other people write his hit songs), a dancer, a performer and just an all around musical genius. On top of that, who else broke color barriers with their music and opened the doors to so many black artists? I think people need to get over and stop believing the rumurs and tabloid stories. Elvis wasn't all that normal either so don't even try to come in here and act like Michael is the only big time artist/genius who has an eccentric lifestyle.

Oh and the fact that Thriller 25 sold better than current artists ( in the U.S. I might add) proves that people are still buying his records and listening to his music. He now has a whole new generation of fans who are enjoying a 25 year-old album. Who can say that? If he is still selling records, i don't know how people could think he wouldn't sell in Vegas of all places.

And actually, that's not even true, because there are still millions of loyal Michael Jackson fans like myself here in the US despite the media's constant attempt to convince the public that Michael isn't relevant or popular anymore. Michael Jackson is the most talented artist the world has ever seen, and I feel sorry for anyone who wouldn't pay top dollar to see him! By the way, I am sure your poll is rigged because there's no way 47% of people would have voted 'not a chance.' Sorry, not buying it.

seriously, these polls and articles don't determine the truth and the facts at all.
Michael Jackson is a show stopper and the most brilliant performer ive ever known and seen. no matter what people think of him personally, you cant beat that fact.

                                                    As one of the people working on developing new entertainment projects for Mr Jackson;
an extended live engagement running one to three years might not be where the star's current interests lie
It seems to me based on where Mr Jacksons head is currently
( and this could change; and I am not his confident )
that the next projects Mr Jackson does will be for film and or television
At least thats how things look currently
But everything in show business is subject to change for any reason at any time

There is only ONE Michael Jackson, wherever he performs, if he does so, he will be electric. As he has said himself, he comes alive on stage, it is where he belongs. Shame on those who have tried to destroy him. Understand the media for what it is, anything to sell a paper. I believe MJ has an inner strength to overcome. Other than the most spellbinding man on stage, MJ has given so much in so many ways to help those in need. Unfortunately greed gets the better of some and they see MJ as a meal ticket. I agree with Anon. above that MJ has nothing left to prove. I believe he will find his own way. I have danced, sang and listened to MJ's music since he was 11 - no-one comes near him. There is that extra little something in his voice, in his movements, in his personality that no-one will ever be able to imitate. I do not believe anyone will ever do it better. Joe Jackson had the boys perform at Vegas early in their career, so if MJ performs here it will be a return, not the upholding of a dying career (MJ is still the best). Whatever he does, I , for one, Will be right there. I believe in MJ. I'm not a crazy fan, I don't want a piece of his hair, I don't want to wait outside anywhere for a glimpse, I don't want to know about his private life, which should remain private. I just want to listen to that voice, watch those legs move and understand I am watching the best there is. Having listened to him for 40 years and never seen him live, yes I would travel 5,000 miles (and more) to see MJ. I am writing a book about him.
