FCC missed chance to clean up TV, by a nipple

The federal appeals court ruling on Monday signaled that Nipplegate was a waste of angry breath by those who saw it as a way to gain a political advantage. In the end, those same people squandered their moral capital on Janet Jackson's nipple.

What do you think of the federal appeals court ruling? Did the FCC overreact or do you think CBS should have paid that fine?

Good grief! This should have never been an issue.

It was just a woman's breast. Go to Europe and lighten up. America is wayy to uptight.
OH WAIT I NEED TO HURRY HOME THOUGH, there are several movies on tonight with murder and blood, and then there is always the news. MUCH BETTER than a boob.

The Timberlake/Jackson number was indecent beyond just the "malfunction." CBS should have paid the fine for allowing such explicitly sexual matter to be part of a broadcast intended for viewers of all ages. And contrary to what the prevalence of sex & violence in movies/tv/etc might seem to indicate, there are MANY Americans who consider such content to be repulsive. These Americans have the right NOT to be exposed to it. And the Constitution shouldn't be distorted into a tool to promote or excuse filth. What should be promoted are performers & content that build and enrich individuals' lives.

It wasn't the exposed breast that bothered me at all. It was the tearing of the clothing...Justin Timberlake (purposely or not) ripping Janet Jackon's top. The act of ripping a woman's clothes off bothers me. I have a son...and this sorry act made it look like it was okay to grab at another human being. No wonder men are considered the sexual agressors in our society. Little boys are taking visual cues from this filth. Conversely, I have a little girl. It is not okay for girls to see men (famous or not) grabbing women and or their clothes and think that it is somehow appropriate. It is not the bare breast people!!! It is the violence that lead to it that was the most vile act.

I am guessing that this author was not in the midst of raising a child that had been molested at a daycare by someone that the state declared a 'juvinile' at the time of the event and kept sealed records. I did everything I was supposed to do to keep my son safe, I researched, I interviewed, and, at the end of it I spent countless hours taking my son through counseling and going over and over about 'private parts' and the fact that we DO NOT show them in public, we DO NOT let people touch them, etc, etc, etc. The last thing I thought when I sat down to watch FOOTBALL was that in less than a second of time CBS would show my son that you CAN show 'private parts' in front of millions of people, and CHILDREN, and it's all OK. I have no issue with adults that chose to watch nudity, my issue is, as a parent, I have the right to expect people to keep their clothes on when a family show is on, and, if 'private parts' are going to be on display for all to see, then I have the right to know that ahead of time, so the choice can be made to avoid it, rather that to have to cope with the consequences afterwards. What this seems to be telling me is that those of us who are trying to raise children without trash TV do not matter. CBS should be fined, a lot more than they were, and the fact that all I ever heard was 'wardrobe malfunction' is asinine. Step up to the plate and take your lumps, a lot of people were offended and we have every right to be. If I want to see Janet's nipple I'll buy a ticket to her concert. What I wanted that day was to watch the Superbowl with my husband and kids.

The case never even should have made it into court. First of all it was NOT even a bare nipple. Janet was wearing a nipple guard over her nipple. The actual nipple was never shown and was still covered up. No Nipple-No Case! FCC Get a Life!!

The title was correct that the FCC missed a chance to cleanup tv. Does anyone actually believe it was an accident? Come on get real. It was planned and should have cost someone big bucks.

How far down we've fallen! We shouldn't be comparing ourselves to other countries' morality. We need to clean up our own back yard, and what a mess it is! The filth on television is unbelievable. Most of prime time TV is loaded with as much sex and bad language as the FCC allows, and that's too much already. Why do we have to be so crude, rude, and disgusting? I'd love to see some good old fashioned stories that stand on their own. Take out the garbage, and there's nothing left. And we have the nerve to sing "God Bless America"! Watch out - one day we'll all have to give account to God, regardless of the FCC.

The last time I checked God didn't have a personal stake in reigning over the television programming that I'm watching. I'm fairly certain he has better things to be doing that shaking his head over the 1 second exposure of a part of something you believe he created. Moreover your arguments regarding decency are futile and misdirected. Your children have never looked inside of an anatomy book? Seen a Romaneque statue? Looked under a cow? I guarantee you, once they get to middle school those of you railing against the unseen horror of the human body will be wishing you had moved past your own stigma created fears and openly discussed biology with your children. The human body is not something to be cowered away from and doing so only invites low self-confidence and self hatred, but rather it is something to be accepted and loved. Whether you are religious or not the human body is beautiful and the naked body should be treated as such.
